Two of the most famous Notre Dame Gargoyles were the inspiration for the Gothic Duo Bookends. Le Penseur, The Thinker, graces the north tower of the cathedral, contemplating the sweep of Paris below. The Horned Demon stands on the northwest corner of the south tower. Both of these famous grotesques combine medieval iconography with the 19th century gothic imagination, eternal guardians warding off evil spirits.
