Before plastic was invented, anatomical medical models were made of plaster. Our version shows the chambers of the heart updated with the phrase, “From the bottom of my heart” in the right and left ventricles. Plastic was invented in 1907, by the way, by Belgian inventor Leo Baekeland, and called “Bakelite.” He beat his Scottish rival to the patent office by one day.
