In 1844, Architect Eugene Emmanuel Viollet le Duc, already famous at age thirty for his work on French medieval landmarks, began a restoration of Notre Dame Cathedral. His work included reconstructing the façade, which had been heavily damaged during the Revolution.

The Cornerstone Dragon was among the gargoyles and other decorative elements which replaced the old sculpture under the supervision of Viollet le Duc and his collaborator, Jean-Baptiste-Antoine Lassus.

This intrepid little fellow can be purchased as a pair of bookends, or as a decorative element which stands alone, bravely warding off evil spirits wherever they may attempt to gain a foothold.
